PKN-Inspire Japan

Let’s Get Together for Japan! :)

Hello Manila, let’s show some love! Another Pecha Kucha Night is approaching on April 16, Saturday, 8pm at Nomnomnom Happy Food Restaurant, at 1 Tomas Morato co. E. Rodriguez Ave. (beside Shell gas station). Admission is free. Global Pecha Kucha Night – “Inspire Japan” will be a bit different from our usual PK nights. For one evening, we will inspire Japan.­

From the initial images of the tsunami coming ashore, to the triple blow of the reactors at Fukushima, we can sympathize with those anxiously waiting for normalcy to return. This night is a way to show our solidarity, and try to give back. We know that April 16 is only a few days away, but Japan is in need of assistance now.

Pecha Kucha (meaning “conversation” in Japanese) Night started in February of 2003 in the offices of Klein Dytham Architecture in Tokyo. What started out as a networking and presentation evening for designers rapidly evolved into a worldwide event in over one hundred cities, fueled by plenty of creativity, an ample amount of refreshing drinks, and its unique presentation format of 20 pictures with 20 seconds to explain each.

The most recent Pecha Kucha Night was held last December 2010 at the Shangri-La Cineplex that began with illustrator Anjo Bolarda who wowed the crowd with his detailed artwork. Speakers included passionate individuals such as money museum curator Regina Cruz, travel photographer Egan Jimenez about following his dreams, director Erik Matti, artist-chef-food writer Claude Tayag, and designer Mich Dulce who recounted 20 firsts in her career.

This April 16, residents from all over Metro Manila can gather in one place to not only “Inspire Japan”, but to celebrate the ways in which Japan has inspired us. Our very inspiring presenters include writers and illustrators such as Elbert Or and Herb Fondevilla, co-founder of Good Food Co. – Charlene Tan, and founder of MeiDolls Cafe – Reia Ayunan. Completing the night will be author of “Astigirl” – Tweet Sering, background artist at TOEI Animation Philippines – Biboy Hernandez, and multi-disciplinary artist and educator Sarah Queblatin.

Nomnomnom Restaurant is creating a special and yummy Japanese-inspired menu for this event with 50% of the proceeds to be donated to Architecture for Humanity’s rehabilitation projects in Japan.

Join us as we “Inspire Japan” through the sharing of ideas and stories. This special Pecha Kucha Night will be held all over the world in succession, pouring in inspiration towards Japan.
